Class Description: Exploring Mixed Media with Liz Perry

Liz's Mixed Media class will explore the use of collage, overlays of handmade and/or rice (also known as Washi) papers, graphite, ink and watercolor, acrylic, demos on the technique of trace drawing, and the use of stencils. This is an exploration into intuitive design, color and composition, texture... leading to contrasting, dynamic imagery through the use of mixed media techniques and materials. This class is fun and loose and great for students new to painting as well as helpful to advanced painters.

Materials:

Assorted rice papers, handmade papers, wallpaper or decorative papers,or pre-painted scraps of paper,
watercolor or acrylic paints of your choice and brushes, a stick to experiment drawing with,
a jar of YES glue or archival glue sticks,
tracing paper,
soft pencils,
10” x 15” or larger pad of Canson watercolor or mixed media paper, (if the student prefers to work on a hard substrate, I would suggest cradled Gesso boards or Claybords any size),
India ink,
and bring some abstract or more realistic sketches, or photos that inspire you. Landscapes and forest scenes are always a good starting point, and florals are great, too! If you want to cut your own stencils, bring some stencil papers and an exacto knife and cutting board. Liz will also provide a cutting board and some knives.
A roll of paper towels, too, please!
