This unique 4 week class in stone carving will focus on providing the student with the experience of working in soapstone through a subtraction process with rasps (files) and sandpapers that will render your amazing vision into reality. Have you ever wondered how Michelangelo carved the David? Well, we will show you how and help you create your own masterpiece!
Jesse will provide a demonstration of the carving process, and support with the safe and proper usage of the carving tools. I will show you a sculpture in progress, as well as finished sculptures. We will also discuss the art of presentation to enable you to amaze your family and friends, and yourself.
Objective:
For Students:
- You will learn how to select a stone that fits your design, through simple calibrations and models.
- Create an abstract, realistic or figurative sculpture from soapstone with rasps and sandpaper to completion.
- Create a sculpture with depth, texture and continuity of design.
$75 Materials fee includes everything you will need. Soapstone, Rasps, Sandpaper and other tools. Registration needs to be done by Jan 24 to ensure delivery of supplies.
