Painting The Essence of the Sea Description:

A successful painting is Alive! It evokes emotion and draws the viewer in. The choices you make will mean the difference between high art and low art. What is essential to the painting and what gets in the way of your feelings about the subject or the truth of the subject are important questions to ask. This three-day workshop will focus on what is essential in seascape painting and painting in general. Basic art principles will be demonstrated and discussed as well.

Karen will start the workshop with a morning studio demo. The rest of the first day, students will be working on value and design sketches and painting from their own coastal plein air painting studies, sketches and or photo references. The following day will be spent outside in plein air, painting. Starting with a demo, Karen will be demonstrating her process of plein air painting. Students will then spend the day painting their own  work from nature as Karen comes around to everyone for individual guidance. The last day will be back to the studio to finish either your studio painting or your plein air painting or both. At the end of the last day we'll do an informal group critique.

*Cancellation Policy: To reserve a space a 50% deposit, including a non-refundable $20 application fee, is required. Full payment is due 60 days prior to the workshop. No refunds will be given within 60 days of the workshop unless we are able to fill your space. Once a workshop is wait-listed full payment is required no matter of the date. Cancellation requests must be in writing. Those students paying the non-member pricing will be extended membership advantages for the calendar year.
